Organisational Update

Dear Friends,

In keeping with this period of transformation - the seasonal shift to Autumn - we want to share our latest news and developments. After careful consideration, we have taken the decision to cease activity and formally close as a not-for-profit organisation at the end of this year.

Pier Projects was established in 2017 and conceived as an agile and collaborative not-for-profit. Our aim has been to foster conversations and creation between artists and communities about individual, social and environmental health inspired by the context and history of Felixstowe. We have created time, space and resources for this to happen, balancing small-scale social change with a light-touch footprint. We have needed to stay nimble: as we were embarking on this journey, the impact of the Brexit referendum was gathering pace. Since then, we have navigated the pandemic and seen global crises unfolding.

We have had many supporters along the way and would like to thank all the artists and partners we have worked with and the funding we have received from Arts Council England, National Heritage Lottery Fund, East Suffolk District Council, Suffolk County Council and Felixstowe Town Council.

Our final legacy event will be our symposium on Thursday 6th November at Harvest House in Felixstowe on art and social change which will also celebrate the launch of our new publication to accompany it.

The book and the symposium are opportunities to explore art for social benefit - touching on beginnings, endings, sustainability, ambition and risk. For Pier Projects, we will be thinking about the potential of ‘leaving well’. Please consider this an especially warm-hearted invitation to join these discussions and help us celebrate - and most importantly, thank - all those who have made our work possible.
