Community Pop-Up: Views From Convalescent Hill

Views From Convalescent Hill, Community Pop-Up Event

Saturday 27 January 11am - 2pm, Felixstowe Library

Are you interested in the history of Felixstowe? Or health and wellbeing?

Come along to Felixstowe Library on Saturday 27 January, drop in between 11am and 2pm to find out more and sign-up to get involved in ‘Views from Convalescent Hill’: a research and community project exploring the heritage of wellbeing, rest, convalescence and care in Felixstowe.

Would you like to get involved? Come and chat with us and artist Dana Olărescu about being a Creative Collaborator and have your voice in the project.

What is a Creative Collaborator?
The role of Creative Collaborators will be to work alongside project artist Dana Olărescu taking part in workshops that lead to reinterpretation of some of the collection at Felixstowe Museum, shape a digital archive and develop a programme of public events that relate to the themes of the project to coincide with the launch in June.

The six workshops led by Dana will take place in February and March and will explore the themes of wellbeing, rest, convalescence in Felixstowe, both in the past and in the present. The 3 hour workshops will be informal, likely to include research, walks, making and eating together.

Why Take Part?
This is an opportunity to share your experiences, impressions and thoughts about health and wellbeing and the town you live in or are connected to.

Learn more about museum collections, undertake archival research, help shape events that reflect what convalescence and rest mean to you. Perhaps you are interested in heritage, art or simply want to connect with others who share your passions to work towards a common goal?

Who Can Take Part?

This opportunity is open to anyone aged 16+ connected to Felixstowe. No previous experience of arts or creative projects is necessary and we welcome a range of interests and skills. If you have access needs or require support in order to take part, we would love to discuss this with you.

In order to help develop the project and for you to get the most out of the experience, we ask that you are able to commit to attending all six workshops. The workshops will be once a week
for six consecutive weeks and are likely to start on the week beginning Monday 5th February.

Mindful of people's work, life and caring commitments, we want to be able to offer the sessions at convenient times, so it would be great to meet you in person to discuss this further if you are interested. We will endeavour to schedule the workshops at the most suitable times for the group.

Views from Convalescent Hill is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, we have been able to support this project.

We are also grateful for the support of East Suffolk District Council’s Enabling Communities Fund and to our partners; Felixstowe Museum, The Hold and FOPWA, without whom this project would not be possible.
